If you’ve scheduled your first dermal filler appointment, congratulations! You’re taking a step toward subtle, natural-looking rejuvenation that can restore volume, soften lines, and help you feel more confident in your appearance.
While dermal fillers are minimally invasive with little to no downtime, a bit of preparation can make your experience even smoother and help you achieve the best possible results. Here’s how.
1. Schedule a consultation first
Before your filler appointment, we recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our board-certified physicians. During this visit, you’ll discuss your aesthetic goals, review your medical history, and learn which filler type and placement will work best for your unique facial anatomy. This is also the perfect time to ask questions in order to establish realistic expectations for what your results may be like.
At PureLee Redefined, we offer a range of dermal fillers including Restylane, Juvéderm, Sculptra, Versa, Belotero, and RHA fillers—each designed for specific concerns and areas of the face. Your provider will recommend the ideal option based on where you’d like to add volume, whether that’s your cheeks, lips, jawline, or under-eye area.
2. Avoid blood thinners and certain supplements
To minimize bruising and swelling, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for about a week before your appointment, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Common items to avoid include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), vitamin E, fish oil, omega-3 fatty acids, ginkgo biloba, and St. John’s Wort.
However, if you take prescription blood thinners for a medical condition, please consult with your prescribing doctor before making any changes. And once you arrive at our med spa, always let our team know about the medications and supplements you’re currently taking as a safety precaution.
3. Skip alcohol for 24-48 hours before
Alcohol can thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising at the injection sites. We recommend avoiding alcoholic beverages for at least 24 to 48 hours before your filler appointment. This simple step can make a noticeable difference and streamline the healing process!

4. Come with a clean face
On the day of your appointment, arrive with a clean face. This means no makeup, moisturizers, or sunscreen on the areas being treated. This helps reduce the risk of infection and allows your injector to see your natural facial structure clearly. (If you’re coming from work or another commitment, we’ll be happy to provide a gentle cleanser to prepare your skin before treatment!)
5. Eat a light meal and stay hydrated
Having a light meal before your appointment can help you feel comfortable and prevent any lightheadedness during treatment. Staying well-hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment also supports your skin’s overall health and can contribute to a smoother recovery—not to mention keeping the rest of your body systems functioning well.

6. Keep your schedule clear after treatment
While dermal fillers require minimal downtime, some patients experience temporary swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites. For this reason, it’s ideal to avoid scheduling your first appointment (of any kind) right before a major event or important meeting! Most patients feel comfortable returning to their normal activities immediately, but giving yourself a day or two of flexibility can provide peace of mind.

7. Know what to expect during and after
Dermal filler injections typically take 15 to 45 minutes depending on the areas being treated. Most fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, to enhance your comfort during the procedure. You’ll see results immediately, though final results will settle over the following one to two weeks as any swelling subsides.
After your treatment, your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions. You’ll want to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat (like saunas or hot yoga), and lying face-down for the first 24 hours. It’s fine to apply a cold compress, as you may have some initial swelling or mild discomfort afterwards.
“Love love love! I was initially drawn to their practice because of the amazing reviews and they did not disappoint! Dr. Marvin Lee was informative and during my botox and aerolase treatments. He eased my anxiety as this was my first time receiving these treatments! He was so kind! The atmosphere is clean and beautiful!”
