3 Things Not to Do After Getting Fillers

Dermal filler injections are our go-to treatment to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial features at PureLee Redefined. Fillers are well-loved for their immediate, customizable results and minimal downtime, and while they may seem straightforward, filler aftercare is key to limiting side effects and enjoying ideal results faster.

Here, the expert injectors at our Colorado Springs medical spa share 3 things you should avoid immediately after getting fillers:

A facial massage

Getting a facial massage after fillers might seem like the perfect complement to refreshing your features, but you should avoid rubbing or pressing on the treatment area for about two weeks after the procedure. Facial massages can increase bruising and cause fillers to migrate outside of their precise placements. Displacing the filler will likely diminish results and cause bothersome side effects such as lumps beneath the skin or an unnatural appearance.

An improper placement technique or using the wrong filler in a specific treatment may increase the risk of filler migration; choose a reputable med spa and a highly qualified injector who can personalize your results and minimize potential side effects.

Strenuous exercise

We are all for a healthy, active lifestyle; however, it’s best to delay vigorous workouts for at least 24-48 hours after dermal filler injections. Working up a sweat and increasing your blood flow too soon after your treatment may cause recurrent and intermittent swelling, increased bruising and discomfort, and prolong a short recovery. We recommend gentle walks or light stretching to keep your body active. Don’t worry, you’ll be back to your regular workout routine in no time, and your Colorado Springs dermal filler results will be well worth the delay!

Sunbathing

Keep out of direct sunlight for a minimum of 1-2 weeks after getting fillers. Not only does sun exposure cause skin damage and premature signs of aging in general, but UV radiation also degrades hyaluronic acid (HA)—the key ingredient in many dermal fillers, including Restylane, Juvéderm, Versa, Belotero, and RHA fillers—much faster than HA breaks down naturally in the body. The accelerated breakdown of your filler will likely cause underwhelming and short-lived results.

UV rays also exacerbate bruising, redness at injection sites, and inflammation. Protect your skin and dermal filler results by seeking shade and wearing a high-quality sunscreen of at least SPF30 daily and reapplying as directed.
