The world of aesthetic treatments is constantly evolving, and with each passing year, new solutions claim to push the boundaries of cosmetic science. One of the recent buzzworthy treatments in the industry is Daxxify™, which has been touted as a game-changing alternative to Botox®. If you’ve heard chatter about this new treatment but are unsure about making the leap, here are three facts to keep in mind.
1. Daxxify uses a unique peptide technology that’s not available in other neurotoxins.
Despite utilizing the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, Daxxify is a bit different from Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, or Xeomin in its formulation. Revance, the manufacturers of Daxxify, use a novel Peptide Exchange Technology™ (PXT) to stabilize the product. Peptides are chains of amino acids that preserve the injectable without requiring refrigeration—arguably a more eco-friendly choice. This also means it does not use any animal by-products, making it vegan-friendly.

2. Daxxify may last longer at certain dosages.
This is probably the reason you’ve heard of Daxxify and arrived on our website: it’s supposed to last longer (6 months or more in certain cases). This comes with the promise of fewer visits to the medspa, since other neuromodulators only last 3-4 months.
While this longer duration is possible, note that clinical studies only showed these effects in about half of the patients included in the studies. And from our medical perspective, we only expect Daxxify to last this long at higher doses.
We will offer our first-time patients a lower, standard dose for their initial treatment, which they can expect to last about 3-4 months. If you are interested in a longer duration at your second appointment, then we will be happy to offer you a higher dose at that time. It’s important to understand that this will require more units to be injected and thus, a higher cost.
3. There’s no harm in trying a new Botox formula!
There is no harm in trying a new Botox formula if you wish! In fact, we sometimes recommend patients switch formulas if they feel they are experiencing “Botox resistance,” in which results seem to diminish after a long period of continued use of one Botox formula.

Just be sure to talk to your injector to gather realistic expectations for treatment: the duration of your treatment is actually more dependent on dosing than it is on which Botox-type injectable you choose, so make sure your expectations align with the results your injector is planning to provide for you.
