CoolSculpting Q & A

What is CoolSculpting and how does it work?

CoolSculpting uses fat freezing technology to permanently eliminate fat. The technical name for the process is cryolipolysis. Experts spent years carefully developing the process, which features one-of-a-kind technology that quite literally freezes and kills fat cells. CoolSculpting gives long-term results that make trouble spots a lot less troubling. Fat cells don’t like cold. Once the cells freeze, your body will eliminate the dead cells in 1-3 months or more, resulting in up to 20-25% reduction of fat in the treated area.

For individuals with healthy diet, consistent exercise, and an active lifestyle, cryolipolysis is a safe and effective way to reduce excess fat. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss treatment. It is for patients at or near their ideal body weight who want to reduce fat in one or more of the 9 FDA-cleared treatment areas.

CoolSculpting is a safe, FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure with minimal to no down time.

What is the process like?

Many people wonder if CoolSculpting is painful and what the treatment feels like. The good news is, this body sculpting procedure doesn’t require anesthesia, and you can return to your normal daily activities right after your treatment.

Our specialist at PureLee Redefined in Colorado Springs will ensure you are in a relaxed and comfortable position before starting your treatment. They will then start the process by placing the CoolSculpting applicator over the target area. At first, you may experience a pulling or tugging sensation followed by cold and minor tingling and burning sensations. After 3-5 minutes, the area will become numb allowing the treatment to be very comfortable as it proceeds.

Your treatment time will be determined by the type and size of applicator used, and by the number of applicators needed to cover the treatment area completely. This is customized for each individual and a free consultation will be needed to assess and develop your own personalized treatment plan. Some common side effects that you may experience are mild redness, swelling, or bruising. These side effects are temporary and will usually subside within a few days to a few weeks.

CoolSculpting Target Areas

Stubborn fat lives in more than one area! CoolSculpting can safely and effectively remove fat in the following common problem areas for men and women alike:

Abdomen

When looking to specifically target belly fat, many men and women turn to a surgical procedure called a “tummy tuck,” which typically uses liposuction to target fat around the abdomen in addition to removing excess skin. Tummy tucks and liposuction, while incredibly popular and effective, are plastic surgery procedures that require quite the cost, as well as significant recovery time. If a plastic surgery procedure doesn’t sound like an ideal way for you to get fat removed from the abdomen, CoolSculpting might be the best option to consider, as it is a great non-surgical alternative to try before resorting to costly & risky surgical procedures. Back & Love Handles

If standard diet and exercise are not doing enough to target fat specifically on your back or your “love handles”, there are several options for back fat removal. While liposuction can be an easy and effective way of removing love handles, it still involves surgical incisions and general anesthesia. CoolSculpting on the back and love handles is a relatively simple procedure and requires 1-2 complete treatment sessions with multiple applicators to see results. For most men and women, 2-8 applicators will be needed to treat the entire area, depending on the amount of fat to be targeted  Not only that, but CoolSculpting treatments also cost a fraction of the price compared to traditional back fat removal surgeries. Arms

Stubborn fat on the upper arms can be frustrating for those trying to lose weight but aren’t seeing expected results. If you’d rather not have arm lift surgery or undergo a liposuction procedure, CoolSculpting on the arms is FDA-cleared as a safe arm fat removal option for those that are not wanting to go under the knife. Thighs

There are a few exercises that you can do to help tone the inner and outer thighs, but it is notoriously one of the more difficult places to spot-target through weight loss and exercise. While it’s certainly normal and healthy (and beautiful!) to have fat on your thighs, some patients come to us looking for a way to get slimmer, more toned legs. There are surgical options available, such as thighplasty, but this is considered a major procedure and will leave behind permanent scarring that can be quite difficult to hide, especially when wearing a bathing suit in the summer months. With CoolSculpting as an alternative, it’s no wonder people are moving towards this non-invasive procedure to get easier results. The thighs are one of the areas of the body in which CoolSculpting has been FDA-cleared to safely & effectively remove stubborn fat. Learn more about CoolSculpting for the thighs here.

What results can I expect?

How long does it take to see results?

It can take up to six months to see full visible results. However, within one to three months after your procedure, you’ll begin to see more contour and definition in the treated area.

Will I need multiple CoolSculpting treatments?

The number of treatments depends upon your aesthetic goals. Most often, 1-2 treatments is what we recommend for our patients for best results.

How is CoolSculpting different than liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which a board-certified plastic or cosmetic surgeon will make a small incision under the skin before inserting a tube to suck out the fat. Liposuction typically requires a local anesthetic to numb the general area. On the other hand, CoolSculpting is a minimally-invasive procedure that is performed quickly and without the need of a sedative. CoolSculpting does not require incisions, leaves no scars, and requires no downtime.
