Semaglutide has really taken off as a safe, effective weight loss method, and we are seeing more and more patients at our Colorado Springs med spa showing interest in our medical weight loss program. In the second of this two-part post series, our board-certified internal medicine practitioner, Marvin Lee, MD, answers frequently asked questions about the treatment process and the results you can expect with semaglutide weight loss injections.
1. Does it matter if I take Ozempic, Wegovy, or something else?
It depends on your needs and health status. Ozempic® and Wegovy® are both brand names for semaglutide, but they are approved for different uses and have different dosing guidelines. Wegovy is approved for weight management and cardiovascular risk reduction, while Ozempic is only prescribed for those with type 2 diabetes at this time. There are also compounded versions of semaglutide that are formulated specifically for weight loss and improving health metrics.
The surge in popularity has unfortunately led to counterfeit and low-quality products so it’s imperative that you receive your weight loss medication from a reputable medical facility that only purchases semaglutide through licensed suppliers for your safety and success.
“I’ve had several health and wellness appointments and gained positive results. Dr. Marvin and staff are professional, knowledgeable and they are using the latest technologies. The environment is very relaxing, clean, smells so good and is a beautiful place!”

2. What can I expect during the treatment process?
Our semaglutide weight loss program starts with a 6-month treatment period. For many patients, we will extend this to a year or more, if needed, to reach both weight loss and health goals.
Our weight loss program includes the following:
- 1 weekly semaglutide injection, supervised by Dr. Marvin Lee
- 1 set of lab work
- 1 IV vitamin infusion that includes B12, biotin, amino acids, B1,B2, B3,B5, B6, zinc, vitamin C, and more
- 1 Glutathione infusion
Once you’ve started the program, you will have an appointment at our medical spa in Colorado Springs once a week to see Dr. Marvin. You’ll receive your injection and Dr. Marvin will update your weight and measurements. If you’d prefer to perform your own injections at home, we can easily accommodate your preferences.
3. Where will the injections go?
Your semaglutide injections are administered just under the skin on your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Dr. Marvin will alternative your weekly injections to avoid tenderness in any one area. If you choose self-injections, please follow all of Dr. Marvin’s instructions, and don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions.
4. How soon will I see results?
You may begin to notice changes in as little as a couple of weeks. Many patients report feeling fuller with smaller portions about a month into taking semaglutide in Colorado Springs and a consistent drop in weight by 3 months, sometimes sooner. You’ll start with a low dose to allow your body to comfortably adjust to the medication. We’ll increase the dose each week until you reach the optimal dose—this is when you’ll experience the most weight reduction.
“Amazing first visit experience! I was greeted with a warm smile by staff upon entering the office. The office is clean and aesthetically pleasing. Dr. Marvin Lee was punctual and informative. In a world of quick 2 minute appointments in offices where you feel like a number, this was not that! He took time to discuss my concerns and came up with a treatment plan. I look forward to returning!”

5. How much weight will I lose?
Patients typically lose about 10 to 15% of their weight for every 3 months they take semaglutide, but results can vary. Your weight loss results will depend on factors like your starting weight, food intake, and exercise habits. It’s important to set realistic goals and work closely with Dr. Marvin to monitor your progress and make adjustments as needed. Our weight loss program also includes guidance on nutrition and incorporating physical activity to maximize semaglutide’s effects and to maintain your weight loss long after your treatments have ended.
Semaglutide is most effective when combined with lifestyle changes, such as a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
6. Are there negative side effects?
Semaglutide is generally well-tolerated, with side effects like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and abdominal pain, resolving on their own as your body adjusts to the medication. A primary cause of these side effects is improper dosing, which is why Dr. Marvin checks in with you each week so he can modify your dose if you experience any of these side effects.
More serious, but rare, side effects can include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, and allergic reactions. We assess your medical history and candidacy before treatment to limit the risks of serious side effects.
7. Is semaglutide safe for long-term use?
Semaglutide is considered safe for long-term use in managing weight when used as directed and under the care of a knowledgeable provider. Dr. Marvin is a board-certified aesthetics and internal medicine practitioner in Colorado Springs and takes special care to tailor our weight loss program to align with your body’s needs and prioritize your well-being. Our goal is to help you reach a healthy, sustainable weight with semaglutide and provide nutrition and lifestyle coaching to empower you to keep the weight off after your treatments end.
8. How do I get started with semaglutide injections?
