Exion RF microneedling is a multiplatform device, guided by advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI), designed to give you rejuvenated skin without going under the knife. It combines three tried-and-true processes: microneedling, radiofrequency, and ultrasound technology to address a variety of skin concerns, from aging signs to texture irregularities.
Our devices
Depending on your desired treatment, we use specific applicators with the Exion system:
- Exion Fractional RF Microneedling: An advanced microneedling treatment that incorporates RF energy to boost results
- Exion Face: Combines monopolar radiofrequency and targeted ultrasound waves to generate thermal stress to increase blood circulation and stimulate fibroblasts deep within the skin
- Exion Body: Uses the same technology as Exion Face using a larger applicator to easily treat multiple body areas
- Emfemme 360™: Uses radiofrequency energy for safe and comfortable vaginal rejuvenation
How does each technology in Exion work?
Exion is unique in that it combines different therapies to amplify the production of collagen and elastin, leading to firmer, smoother skin and remarkable improvements in other skin imperfections. Incorporating RF and ultrasound energy in cosmetic procedures has been a game changer in beauty treatments and for good reason: Patients experience stronger results without additional risks or recovery time.
Microneedling
Like traditional microneedling devices, Exion RF microneedling uses a needle-tipped device equipped with fine, hair-like needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger your natural healing process to boost collagen and elastin production—essential proteins that give your skin a plump, youthful appearance and texture. Microneedling’s proven results and minimal downtime have made it a skincare treatment staple over the years.
Radiofrequency (RF) technology
RF is a type of electrical current that reaches the deepest layers of skin, producing controlled heat, raising the temperature to between 60-80°C (140-176°F), to boost natural collagen production and increase elastin fibers. RF energy is used to improve signs of aging, skin tightening, and in non-surgical body contouring procedures. In Exion RF microneedling, RF energy promotes more collagen and melts fat cells—just like it does in Emsculpt Neo treatments.
RF is also used in Evoke facial rejuvenation and Emsella feminine wellness treatments.
Ultrasound technology
Ultrasound technology uses sound waves that reach the skin’s deepest layers with zero discomfort to complement the treatment benefits of Exion Face and Exion Body treatments while also increasing hyaluronic acid (HA) within the skin—a natural substance that helps the skin attract and maintain moisture. By incorporating ultrasound technology, Exion treatments can increase HA levels up to 244%!
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Exion’s AI pulse control allows us to monitor your tissues in real time for precise delivery of each technology for the most effective treatment possible. Treatments such as Evoke facial remodeling also use AI integrations to improve outcomes.

Preparing for your Exion treatment
There are a few pre-procedure skincare guidelines to be mindful of to help prepare your skin for treatment. We ask that you avoid sun exposure, retinol, and exfoliants at least 2 weeks before your appointment to prevent unnecessary skin irritation. You’ll also need to follow this protocol for 2 weeks post-treatment to protect your healing skin and prevent underwhelming results or cause a delay in future treatments.
Your Exion treatment process
We’ll help you get settled into our comfortable, private treatment suite, and depending on your treatment needs, apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort.
RF microneedling
For an RF microneedling treatment, we program the Exion platform to penetrate the ideal depth to achieve a more dramatic improvement in your skin concerns without compromising your skin’s health. We place the applicator against the skin and with the pulse control of the AI monitoring feature, the device quickly “stamps” the sterile needles into the skin and delivers RF energy into the treatment area in a single pass.
Other microneedling systems typically require more than one pass within the treatment area. Exion requires a single pass for less discomfort.
Exion Face & Body
For Exion Face or Exion Body treatments, we pass the applicator over the treatment area to deliver RF and ultrasound energy into the deepest layers of skin.
Treatment times vary depending on the size of the treatment area, typically taking about 30 to 60 minutes. Post-treatment, we apply a soothing serum to nourish your skin.
Emfemme 360
The Emfemme 360 internal wand is carefully inserted to deliver radiofrequency energy for a 360-degree treatment of the vaginal wall. The RF energy comfortably heats the vaginal canal, triggering your body’s collagen growth process to tighten the area. We can also treat labial folds with the Emfemme wand to lift and tighten external tissues.
Exion recovery & downtime
There is typically no downtime after Exion Face, Exion Body, or an Emfemme 360 treatment.
After an RF microneedling treatment, you’ll likely experience some redness and swelling for 12-48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn, in treated areas. Your skin will be more sensitive during recovery as well. These side effects are normal and quickly resolve on their own as you heal. Most patients prefer to take 1-5 days of downtime, depending on the details of their treatment, and we’ll help you estimate your social downtime so you can plan around meetings and events.
You may also have some scabbing, which flakes off within 3-5 days. Please don’t pick at your skin, as this can cause scarring!
Exion results
Results are usually noticeable within four to eight weeks after treatment as collagen production ramps up, with full results visible about 3 months after your last treatment.
Exion RF microneedling vs. traditional microneedling
Traditional microneedling and Exion RF microneedling are both highly effective in rejuvenating the skin, but there are key differences between both treatments:
- Treatment depth: Exion’s microneedles and technology can penetrate deeper for more significant improvement in blemishes, imperfections, and skin quality.
- Collagen & elastin stimulation: Both methods stimulate new collagen growth, but Exion RF microneedling’s additional technologies enhance this process to produce faster, superior results.
- Versatility: Exion RF microneedling’s advanced multi-action approach makes it more effective when treating deeper wrinkles, significant scarring, cellulite, and contouring. Exion’s applicators are specifically designed for small and large areas to keep treatment times brief.
- Downtime: Your recovery from either treatment is quick with only 24-48 hours of slight redness and swelling. These effects may last a little longer since Exion RF microneedling penetrates deeper and incorporates comfortable heat to speed and enhance longer-lasting results.
Exion RF microneedling vs. Morpheus8 & Virtue RF
Treatments like Morpheus8 and Virtue RF have their place too, although we recommend Exion for certain skin concerns and treatment depths. Morpheus8 can penetrate up to 7mm in the skin with an additional 1mm of RF energy penetration. Exion RF microneedling, however, is able to reach 8mm into the skin, while only penetrating 4mm into the skin with its needles, making it the preferred device for the deepest treatment depths or delicate areas.

It’s important to us that we offer multiple treatment technologies to provide the most effective and personalized care. Exion RF Microneedling FAQs
How many Exion RF microneedling treatments do I need?
The number of treatments varies, but it’s common for patients to see optimal results after 2-5 sessions—we’ll recommend the number you need based on your concerns and anatomy and you can decide from there. We’ll space your sessions 2-4 weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and respond.
Is Exion RF microneedling painful?
It’s common to feel a slight pricking and warming sensation, but Exion should not cause intense pain. The device’s refined technology and topical numbing cream help limit discomfort and treatments are generally well-tolerated by most patients. We will check in with you throughout your treatment to ensure you are at ease in our care.
Can I combine Exion RF microneedling with other procedures?
Yes, if you’re interested in adding other procedures to your treatment plan for more comprehensive results, we will recommend complementary treatments and help you schedule them around your Exion treatments.
Am I a good candidate for Exion RF microneedling?
If you seek a non-invasive procedure to address skin aging, texture issues, scarring, or fat reduction, Exion RF microneedling may be just the treatment for you!
Who is not an ideal candidate for Exion RF microneedling?
If you have certain health conditions, active skin infections or rosacea, are pregnant, or have metal implants in the desired treatment area, you should avoid Exion RF microneedling. If you are under the active care of a doctor, consult with them before adding any products or treatments to your normal routine. If needed, we would be happy to recommend an effective alternative treatment during a one-on-one consultation!
